Career

Born in 1958 in Fabriano (Italy).
Lives and works in Marseille.

Elio Tisi uses his scientific training (bachelor's degree in chemistry and industrial design) and his analysis of the history of Italian art to develop a particular pictorial technique and a concept that expresses itself in what he defines as 'minimal movement' and 'metaphysical painting'. He mainly works with diluted acrylic paint on Fabriano handmade paper and on Canson paper.

Thus, he has developed a new aesthetic, influenced by the frescoes by Giotto and the 'Italian squares' by Giorgio De Chirico; an enigmatic universe of silence, with just enough mystery around his creations. The world we perceive in his diptychs is our own world, but something odd makes it almost incomprehensible. It could be argued that “minimal narration” (narrazione minima), for that is the title of this pictorial series, is a fiction that does not depend on the visual artist or the spectator. A fiction whose aim is not to imagine a romantic purpose, but to fill a world in a state of suspension with a story in a state of suspension.

From 1991 to 1998, he exhibited in the south of France, presenting informal works on the idea of face / non-face. The following two years he perfected his new technique, by working on his series on organic residences. In the year 2000, he began 'narrazione minima', which remains today his main form of expression.
